One of the "Good Guys' I am being asked about is Enneapogon nigricans, or Black Head Grass. One of the reasons people are asking is that it is everywhere!
It is a perennial native grass, and is especially widespread aside roads and paved areas where water run off seems to encourage its spreading.
In the Burra Creek Reserve we are letting it set seed before mowing, thereby encouraging its spreading and taking over from weeds.
This mowing technique I understand to be widely used to encourage native grasses, which, amongst other things are green over Summer, providing pasture, and of course, are less likely to be a fire risk.
