Who and Why

The Burra Revegetation Group was established in response to a request from the Regional Council of Goyder to the Burra Community Management Committee Inc to work with them to manage the Burra Creek as it runs through the township of Burra.

An issue had been raised by Burra citizens concerned about what they saw as the excessive use of herbicides to control the fire hazard created by weeds along the creek.

The CMC invited people to participate, and Barry, Maureen, Rasili, Mick, Heather, Bruce & Rob met to talk about 'what have done and how are we going to do it ....'

Bruce had, of course, been planting plants along the creek and bike path for a long time. And so had many others - some known and remembered, others, well we just can't identify them all.

There seemed to be a mix of people who had propagated various species for Trees for Life around Burra, and we were all prepared to listen to what they had to say.

Conversations with the Regional Council of Goyder and Ian Falkenberg from the NRM lead us to apply to get funding for a proper study. The Grant was forthcoming, and details are on the 'Research' page of this Blog.

These are a couple of photos to illustrate what we started with....
