Section L - Red Bridge to Bowling Club

This section of the creek is a mix of beautifully maintained gardens, courtesy of the Council and the Burra Creek Gardeners on the Eastern side of the creek, and an area of closely planted native seedlings just below the Black Sheep restaurant on the Western bank.

There are a number of issues to be dealt with to get a really nice solution to a number of issues:

It is understood that Council sought advice as to the safety of the footbridge by the Bowling Club.

The area floods, and water is maintained by a weir in Section M. In a wet year like 2016 there has been water there for a goodly length of time. The additional issue is that it cannot be regulated and as the weir leaks it 'hangs  around' for a while before returning to a dry creek bed.

Amongst other things, the placement of a weir and sump arrangement at around the Bowling Club footbridge was first proposed by Hemisphere Design in their concept plan commissioned and presented to Council in 2008.

It had been suggested that water could be circulated back up the creek to around the Motel by the use of a solar pump, thereby improving water quality and the creek amenity.

The Burra CMC has been requesting the Regional Council of Goyder to have a discussion over a long period of time.

For the time being, the Burra Creek Gardeners have been assisting with weed maintenance with the seedlings as they grow.

It is envisaged that the Revegetation Group undertake a tidy of the banks towards the footbridge to enable mowing to be undertaken easily, and native grasses are being considered to assist to stabilise the area with other suitable sedges and riparian species.
